Understand Dynatrace Platform Subscription spending from usage evidence

DPS Insights is a Dynatrace App in active development. It is intended to help customers examine Dynatrace Platform Subscription spending, compare periods and see which platform capabilities account for material changes.

Purpose

Dynatrace Platform Subscription usage can span multiple capabilities and change as environments, data volumes and platform adoption evolve. DPS Insights brings usage and cost views together so that customers can investigate spend and identify where a more detailed review is needed.

Capabilities

The current development scope includes:

Current and previous-period spend for the selected timeframe
Daily spending trends
The largest period-over-period changes
Spend grouped by DPS capability
Capability detail views opened from the main overview
Import and configuration of a customer Dynatrace SaaS Rate Card for cost calculations
Storage of Account Management API token configuration for planned integration with supported Account APIs

How it works

The App reads Dynatrace Billing Usage Events through generated DQL and combines those events with generated DPS capability metadata and prices from the configured Rate Card. Current and previous periods use the same usage query with different timeframes, allowing the resulting values to be compared consistently. Account Management API data is not part of the current calculations.

Requirements

DPS Insights is designed for a Dynatrace SaaS environment that provides the relevant DPS Billing Usage Events. The App requires read access to the system data that contains those events, access to the supporting storage buckets, read and write access to its application state, and a configured Dynatrace SaaS Rate Card for cost calculations.

Availability

DPS Insights is currently in development. General availability, publication in Dynatrace Hub and a release date have not been announced.
