Sofia .NET User Group is going to have a regular meeting on 13 Oct 2005 from 18:30h in the local Microsoft office. The headline this time is "Developing mobile applications with .NET Compact Framework" presented by Ruslan Trifonov and Tihomir Ignatov. As usual beer with a bunch of devs is required. The first part of our, long awaited to complete, book is out. For those that are unaware, the book is titled "Programming .NET Framework" and the first part is about 800 pages. We have been working on for the last 6 months and it is enormous amount of work. The print copy will be soon in the bookstores. The book would never be completed without the dedicated work of all the authors (yea, they are a lot) none of them receiving and will not receive any kind of payment. The book is entirely in Bulgarian (sorry non Bulgarian speaking folks) and it is first of its kind. I wrote about it in a previous post. The second part is expected to be released in month or two so watch out. Ah, did I mention that it is free to download :) The book site can be found at http://www.devbg.org/dotnetbook.

Yesterday I found the Alt+F12 shortcut in VS.NET 2003. It provides Object search functionality. If you have a large project and you have lost in the endless amount of classes in your solution then this feature can be of some help for you.

Bulgaria is some kind of social experiment. If you can survive all the bureaucracy, the constant traffic jams full of ‘smarter’ taxi and private bus drivers, if you can stand to all dirt on the streets, buses, magazines, blocks, and adding to this the total ignorance for getting some work done from the 99% of the population and from the government, where corruption and law crimes schemes are known for years but nothing has been done to prevent them, then MAY be you are qualified. Qualified to be another stupid f***, doing nothing or just pretending to do something, waiting for the pay check so you can spend another set of alcoholic endeavors and working on yourself. Welcome to Bulgaria – land of fun, beautiful nature, warm people, sea beaches and gorgeous women. Welcome again to the land of indolence, cursing, nervous people, 3rd in Europe for percent of smokers, where law, police and health insurance mean almost nothing. Welcome to the land of contrasts.

Watch this video. It is amazing!!! There are no pull down menus in MS Word 12. Every single item that you move over will preview your document with the item. This new UI can only be compared to professional graphic programs that I have seen. You have to see it. It can be hardly explained :) Microsoft has taken all feedback about use frequency of every menu in the Office and has implemented it in the new MS Office.
