Some people really should blog. If you are knowledgeable, experienced person working in Bulgarian IT market, please blog! You own it to the whole community. Share your expertise and give your own opinion. There are so few bloggers in Bulgaria compared to the actual number of the developers so it is a shame that this knowledge is never shared to the others. Hopefully there are some of those knowledgeable Bulgarian developers that already blog. But we are far away from what a community should be.

As you might inevitably have heard, Avalon and Indigo CTPs are available for MSDN Subscribers. It is located under Tools, SDKs, DDKs | Platform Tools | WinFX SDK | Avalon and Indigo Community Technology Preview - March 05 (English). You take a look at the release notes first. And do not forget about the early documentation. I read somewhere that it is intended to work with the February CTP of Whidbey and if it is true I won't be able to try it. I am still using the Whidbey's December CTP because of the new Team System features. I will let you know what my experience is with this CTP of Indigo and Avalon.

When you think about branding you probably think of those TV commercials that can make you sick. But you may think about a favorite brand of yours. In my opinion branding IS dead. And it is a matter of time. Look what James Surowiecki thinks about it. My favorite passage: "By the time you think about buying that digital altimeter barometer, chances are the bleeding edge has already weighed in at Epinions. This gives nascent brands an opportunity to succeed, but it also makes staying power a lot harder to come by. Welcome to the What Have You Done for Me Lately? economy."

I have never taken quizzes like this, but this one makes me laugh :)) Take the quiz: "Which American City Are You?"
BostonYou are under-world power and old-world tradition. You get the job done and it's better if nobody asks how.

Here is the reason why you should NOT name your stored procedures with "sp_" prefix. I was on my way to use this prefix in my last project but one good fellow saved me :) The article contains sample code also (which by unfortunate I have not tried). Through Scooter's Musings post. Update: MS SQL 2005 also has this problem.Labels: Tools and Tips

PREFast is a new tool from Microsoft that is expected to be included in VS 2005. It analyzes unmanaged code for possible buffer overwrites, stack overflows and etc. This tool was used in Microsoft Trustworthy Computing Initiative in 2004. A step by step tutorial is available at Windows Hardware and Driver Central. Interestingly this document says that: "You can use PREfast to analyze both kernel-mode drivers and other kernel-mode components. You can also use PREfast to analyze user-mode drivers by ignoring any kernel-specific warnings. PREfast is licensed only as a driver development tool. You should not use PREfast to test user-mode applications." I presume this applies only for the distribution of PREFast with Windows DDK and in VS 2005 we can expect working version for user mode apps also. Although, the document is good starting point for what you can expect from PREFast.

Microsoft is going to port WinFS to Windows XP and *presumably* to Windows 2003. That's news I am really happy to hear of.
